Italian utility Enel is close to finalizing the sale of a minority stake in its Greek renewable energy portfolio to Macquarie Group, according to sources familiar with the matter. The deal, which values the portfolio at around 340 million euros ($405 million), is part of Enel's efforts to reduce debt and focus on its core businesses. The stake sale includes more than 70 operating solar and wind plants with a combined capacity of around 330 MW. Enel declined to comment on the matter.
I find it interesting that Enel is selling a minority stake in its Greek renewable energy portfolio to Macquarie, a well-known financial group. This move aligns with Enel's strategic goal of reducing debt and focusing on its core businesses. The sale of more than 70 solar and wind plants demonstrates Enel's commitment to renewable energy and highlights the potential for growth in the Greek market. By partnering with Macquarie, Enel can benefit from their expertise and financial resources to further expand its renewable energy portfolio.
